 What is the First Conditional and What Is It Used For?

The first conditional is a type of conditional sentence in English that talks about real or possible situations in the future. It is used when there is a real possibility that something will happen if a certain condition is met.


 Structure

Affirmative

If + personal noun + verb in present simple + auxiliary + main action



 Negative

If + personal noun + negative verb in present simple, personal noun + auxiliary + not 



Interrogative

Auxiliary + personal noun +  if + personal noun + verb in present simple?


Wh- Questions

Wh- + auxiliary + personal noun + if + personal noun + verb in present simple?


 Short Answers

 Affirmative

  • Yes, I will.

  • Yes, she will.

  • Yes, they will.

Negative

  • No, I won’t.

  • No, he won’t.

  • No, they won’t.
